Making the old farm house where the grandparents lived into an agriculture experience

Yutaka Minegishi

This place was the residence of his grandparents. 7-8 years ago they passed away one after another. At the time, he was already working for 3-4 years and wanted to do something independently so he left the company he worked for.
It was around that time he start thinking it would be a waste to tear this house down. As a person who worked for a company pursuing profit on a daily basis, the question of leaving the house as is, came into his mind so he decided to do a business where you can contribute to the people of the region.
To do so, he participated in an agricultural training course for one year. Although he was confident in his physical strength this confidence was crushed in one week and realized that it was not easy to live on farming alone. Then he thought of two ideas that would take advantage of the unique location and regional characteristics. Because this location is close to Tokyo, people from the metropolitan areas would feel free to come and visit the commuter suburbs of Tokorozawa. There is probably lot of people who would want to experience agricultural activities, so he thought he could do something here.
In this house is a hearth, furnace and also a Goemon style bath that is heated directed beneath. On a trial basis he had friends come over to stay and everyone was really excited and had an overall impression that is was fun. On the other hand, his mother opposed the idea… saying that it was far and inconvenient. However, since the his friends from Tokyo told him that is was worth staying even if they had to pay money so he started operating a space for rental farm plots and farming activities. He even collaborated with companies to hold farming experience events.
As a result of running the business with activities for the farm and old farmhouse, demand arose for overnight stays so he thought of starting a farm stay inn. However, he didn’t know how to open an inn and after several months of inquiring at different institutions and documentation he was finally able to the farm stay inn in 2010.
